Resident Evil (Season 1) (2022) – Storyline:

Resident Evil is an American action horror streaming television series developed by Andrew Dabb for Netflix. Based on the video game series of the same name by Capcom, it is the second television adaptation of the franchise after the animated miniseries Infinite Darkness, and the eighth live-action adaptation after the film series of the same name. The series take place in its own original universe but feature the games series storyline as its backstory and basis.

The story takes place over two timelines. The first of which involves 14 year old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker moving to New Raccoon City. They come to realise that their father may be concealing dark secrets that could destroy the world. The second timeline takes place over a decade in the future, where only 15 million humans remain, with over 6 billion animals and people being infected with the T-virus. It follows Jade, now thirty, in her efforts to survive in this world.

Resident Evil (Season 1) 2022’: TV Review :

As a long time Resident Evil fan since the early games I’ve seen a lot lot of trash over the years based on the RE franchise. This is BY FAR the most egregious cash grab using the “resident evil” name I’ve witnessed to date. There is absolutely no tie in with the games, or characters from the games at all. The story takes place in 2036 with a cast of 20-somethings of mostly multi-race origin (which is fair enough since they filmed it south africa) but has nothing to do with any existing RE storyline. The writers are clearly trying to preempt the yet-to-be released HBO series based on The Last of Us which clearly looks to be better funded and written, and which would be fine if they hadn’t used the RE name to make me watch this garbage teen drama. Oh, and there’s a character called Billy Wesker.

The trailer was not giving me good vibes nor hope and the series actually confirmed that. It’s awful, it’s the kind of Netflix new trend of series: poorly done, made to be watch quickly and forgotten twice as fast. There’s absolutely no intention of making something great. Between that and the Korean Casa del Pepel, Netflix Think Tank seems really short on original ideas….I’ve watched the first episode (so you thankfully don’t have to) & can safely say you should simply add this show to the list of other Netflix series which have been consigned to history & forgotten. Stuff like “Cursed” & “The Irregulars” etc. Commissioned by the streaming service (clearly hoping to capitalise off of the recognisable brand) to just fill their release slots & keep subscribers subscribed, in order to view something – ANYTHING – & your money rolling in every month. The quality obviously wasn’t even considered before the season went in to production. It’s all about profit.

This is painfully unimaginative, badly written, clichéd & hammy. Another sub-par installment to the franchise & a waste of the source material. A real shame, as this could’ve been a great sci-fi franchise but alas, the potential’s squandered. Can’t say I’m enthused about continuing.
